What is LUDC?
LUDC is a consortium of research groups at Lund University headed by Leif Groop dedicated to unravelling the pathogenesis and treatment of diabetes mellitus. LUDC started July 1st 2006 when selected for funding by the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) in fierce national competition, as a part of the call for applications for Linneaus grants.
What does LUDC do?
We are active in several different areas of diabetes research. Our aim is to identify the genetic factors responsible for development of diabetes, how they interact with the environment and then to integrate this knowledge with identifying the pathophysiology in pancreatic islet cells and insulin target tissue.
How does LUDC relate to the Diabetes Programme at Lund University (DPLU)?
The DPLU is a faculty-sponsored research network focusing on diabetes. DPLU is open to all interested diabetes researchers at Lund University. One of DPLUs major goals is to promote joint group applications, the shining example being LUDC. Another major goal is to further the training of PhD students and post-doctoral fellows in the diabetes field.

The Bo & Kerstin Hjelt Foundation for type 2 diabetes research was established in 2008 and has as a long-term goal to fund research to prevent and cure type 2 diabetes. The Foundation finances diabetes research at the Medical Faculties of Lund University, Sweden and Geneva University, Switzerland.
In 2013, two projects amounting to 50.000 Euros each was to be funded. Preference was given to novel projects rather than support for on-going research.
The next deadline for applications will be December 15th, 2012.
Project funding beginning on April 1st, 2013.

The recipients of this years grants is Ola Hansson and Anders Rosengren from Lund University and Karim Bouzakri and Francois Jornayvaz from Geneva University.
