Eva Degerman
Professor
In the on-going projects we try to focus on defects in cell signalling and regulation of lipid metabolism and insulin secretion, having human tissues as a main model. Our research is performed within the LUDC (Lund University Diabetes Centre), a Linné Centre led by Prof. Leif Groop. Eva Degerman is one of 10 PIs, Lena Stenson is vice PI. Eva Degerman is also member of the executive board of LUDC and in charge, together with Marju Orho Melander, of an “action group” called FAT action, having obesity, lipotoxicity and genes associated with defect lipid metabolism in focus. LUDC provides excellent environment/facilities to perform diabetes research. For example, a platform for the studies of human tissues has been established and human islets are provided via collaboration with Prof. Korsgren at Uppsala University on a regular basis. Also in collaboration with Sven Frederiksen, an obesity surgeon at Lund University Hospital, fresh adipose tissue from patients will be obtained for the preparation of human adipocytes.
